About Marseille

Marseille is the second biggest city in France, founded in 600 BC by Greek settlers. It is situated on the Mediterranean coast, in the Gulf of Lion. Marseille has a total population have approximately 880,000 people. The city is known for its beautiful coastlines and calanques, for instance, the Calanque de Sormiou. Additionally, the city is also one of the largest and most important trading ports in Europe, handling transport, industry, and goods at the Grand Port de Marseille.

The city has a TGV high-speed railway system that connects to the rest of France and other parts of Europe, along with a large public transit system. Marseille also contains a lot of famous landmarks, including the Notre-Dame de la Garde, the Château d’If, the Marseille Museum of History, and many more. Marseille is full of transportation, activities, and food, like their iconic bouillabaisse, which is a traditional fish stew.

A big part of Marseille’s culture surrounds sports, especially football. The city’s main club, called the Olympique de Marseille, has its home ground located in the Orange Vélodrome, France’s second-largest stadium.
